What a great night! – the Grand Opening of the museum was a grand success with notable visits from past and present US ski team members including  Megan Ganong, Travis Ganong, Tamara McKinney and Lila Lapana. Dr Richard Ganong, the US Ski Team physician and Vojko Lapana of the Yugoslavia Olympic ski team were also present for the opening.  Plenty of food and drink was provided to the crowded room by Joe Lanza and Eli Covell from the Hacienda del Lago.  The always generous Mike Akay, from Lake Tahoe Chocolates, suprised everyone by showing up with an excessive amount of assorted candies from his place in the Boatworks mall.  The highlight of the night were the opening ceremony speeches by historian and musuem partner David C. Antonucci and Bill Clark from the Auburn Ski Club thanking everyone for their support and generous donations for the project.  Now the only issue is what excuse we will come up with for the next museum party – coming soon!… Read more

Although we have been searching for 1960 Olympic items for many years this is the first “green” pennant we have ever come across. There are plenty of blue and red pennants in our collection – now, thanks to the Cronk family, we have the rare green one. As per Janet Cronk’s letter this originally was part of the William Corlett Estate, the architect of the ice skating rink and the designer of the Olympic logo. If you notice in the picture the logo is actually upside down on this pennant. The Cronk family also donated multiple rare magazine to the museum including Olympic editions of Time and Sports illustrated and a copy of the official Olympic program.
